Initial Consultation

Our initial consultation is a unique part of our service and takes up to an hour. During this consultation a senior member of the team will explore the precise nature of your problem and find out your particular needs. It is probably unlikely the therapist you see this first time will be your counsellor or psychotherapist for subsequent sessions, so essentially this is a finding out session with a view to making the right referral to one of our team. Our sole aim is to ensure you find the best therapist, not just in terms who has the right expertise but also someone you’re likely to be comfortable working with.
Counselling or longer term psychotherapy is a serious undertaking which involves dedication and hard work to achieve your desired outcomes. This is why your initial consultation is also an ideal opportunity to ask questions or raise concerns about what’s involved, prior to any commitment. Whilst we encourage clients to commit to a minimum of four sessions before reviewing, it is important you tell your counsellor or psychotherapist how it’s going. You are investing your valued time and money, we want to make sure you make the right decision from the very outset.

While we endeavour to book you in to begin your therapy as soon as possible, very occasionally the most suitable therapist chosen for you may not have space available and so for this reason there may be a delay until your first appointment.
If our service cannot provide the specific help you need we will suggest alternatives wherever possible. Once a referral is decided upon we endeavour to start your sessions as soon as possible. Often you can speed this up by being as flexible as possible about the times that your are available.

From the 1st June 2019 all Counselling or Psychotherapy sessions for individuals and couples are charged at £60 a session. The fee for an initial assessment currently remains at £60, likewise £65 for family therapy. In certain circumstances individual rates can be renegotiated, but only by separate agreement with the therapist you have been allocated. Clients normally pay at the end of each session, or in advance for an agreed number of sessions. Currently the service only accepts cash, cheques or BACS payments (on a monthly invoice basis) for a session. You are expected to pay in full for missed or cancelled sessions if less than 24 hours-notice is given.
Sessions usually last between 50 minutes to an hour in length, depending on the therapist.

Appointments are generally available from Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 8.00 pm, with some availability on Saturday mornings and for understandable reasons evening appointments are most in demand and therefore more limited.
